President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva is expected to fly over, this Saturday (28), the areas most affected by the rains in the Zona da Mata region of Minas Gerais.
It is also planned that the president will meet with the mayors Margarida Salomão, of Juiz de Fora; from José Damato, Ubá; and Maurício dos Reis, by Matias Barbosa.
The three cities are in a situation of public calamity. Two other municipalities (Divinésia and Senador Firmino) are in emergency.
President Lula will be accompanied by the Minister of Integration and Regional Development, Waldez Góes.
To date, the ministry has approved resources worth R$11.3 million to help the three most affected cities. These resources are aimed at both humanitarian assistance and the restoration of essential services (through eight work plans).
Cities with federal recognition of an emergency situation or state of public calamity may request financial support from the Ministry of Regional Development Integration for civil defense actions. Requests must be made through the Integrated Disaster Information System.
With the work plans, the National Civil Defense technical team evaluates the proposed goals and values. After approval, the release of resources is formalized by ordinance published in the Official Gazette of the Union.
The National Civil Defense also offers distance learning courses aimed at training municipal and state agents to use the Integrated Disaster Information System.
More rain
The government announced that the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) also predicts more rain for this Saturday (28) in the region in accordance with warnings of “great danger”.
Rainfall could exceed 100 millimeters in 24 hours, with the risk of new flooding, flash floods and landslides. The warnings also warn of rain in the states of Rio de Janeiro, Espírito Santo and Bahia.
