Dominican Republic has a rare earth reserve above 150 million tonsThe country’s president said this Friday, Luis Abinaderin his annual speech before the National Assembly, which coincides with the commemoration of Independence Day.
Until now “we have confirmed gross deposits of more than 150 million tons, with a proven quality by the best international laboratories, among the best in the world for their purity and feasibility of exploitation“said the head of state.
According to Abinader, it is the most valuable mining right now “because these materials are the raw material necessary to build the new technologies such as cell phones, semiconductors or chips, space industry, rockets and missiles for the military industry, among many other uses.”
“The strategic benefits What will we get from possessing rare earth and to refine them, the economic income that we will obtain with the exploitation of today’s most precious mineral, will be ours main source non-income tax,” he stated.
In August 2024, the Government created the Dominican Mining CompanyS.A. (Emidom), public entity with single state capital for exploration and exploitation of the strategic mining resources of the country, especially those related to rare earthhighly coveted elements in the world and essential for the manufacture of electronic components.
Meanwhile, the country advances in a process exploration in Pedernales (southwest Dominican), in the Ávila mining reservewhich was already declared in 2018 Mining Fiscal Reserve for the exploitation and evaluation of possible deposits of rare earth.
In the first phase, there was the collaboration of the University of Barcelona and, at a later stage, the Corps of Engineers of the United States Army.EFE
