The Ministry of Education announced this Thursday (26) the construction of 117 indigenous schools in the country. The announcement was made by the Minister of Education, Camilo Santana, during a visit to the Sahu-Apé indigenous community, in Amazonas.
“We know that the country is still very unequal, and it is no different in education. Brazil still has a very large debt to the original peoples, to the indigenous peoples. There will be 117 schools that will guarantee all the conditions of a dignified, quality school, a school where students can play during recess”, he highlighted.
According to the ministry, the initiative, which will involve an investment of R$785 million, is part of the Education, Science and Technology Axis of the New Growth Acceleration Program (PAC), which now includes the construction and expansion of indigenous schools in 2026.
According to the ministry, The educational spaces that will be built will respect the cultural identity, ways of life and territorial organization of original peoples and traditional communities.
The initiative will benefit 17 states. Amazonas, Roraima and Amapá will receive the largest number of schools, 27, 23 and 17, respectively. The states of Acre, Alagoas, Bahia, Ceará, Maranhão, Mato Grosso do Sul, Mato Grosso, Pará, Pernambuco, Rio Grande do Sul and Tocantins will also benefit.
According to the ministry, the choice of locations followed technical, territorial and population criteria.
“The formalization of the proposals was carried out through the TransfereGov system, by the heads of the state Executive branch, with preliminary technical analysis by the National Education Development Fund (FNDE) and operationalization by Caixa Econômica Federal”, said the ministry, in a note.
