The 2nd Court of Control of Miranda decreed deprivation of liberty for Lisandro Román Arteaga (24), for allegedly causing the death of the official of the Bolivarian National Police (PNB) Dionifer Yonaifre Martínez Pérez (22). The event occurred on January 12 in the La Veraniega sector, Tomás Lander municipality of Miranda state, the Public Ministry reported.
In the early hours of that day, the victim and some friends were at a fast food restaurant when they were surprised by the prisoner and other men. When they realized that Martínez Pérez was a police officer, they shot him in the chest and stripped him of a motorcycle he owned, as well as cell phones belonging to other people present at the scene.
During the incident, the police officer was transferred to the Simón Bolívar General Hospital in Ocumare del Tuy, where he died after admission. Román Arteaga was arrested on February 17 in the state of Táchira following an agreed upon arrest warrant.
During the presentation hearing, the 9th Prosecutor’s Office of the aforementioned jurisdiction charged the man with the crimes of qualified intentional homicide, aggravated robbery, aggravated theft of a motor vehicle, illicit possession of a firearm and association to commit a crime.
Once the elements of conviction presented by the prosecutor’s representation had been evaluated, the 2nd Miranda Control Court issued the deprivation of liberty against Román Arteaga, who was confined in the Yare III Capital Region Penitentiary Center.
