The General Price Index – Market (IGP-M), known as rent inflation, registered a fall of 0.73% in February, reversing the increase observed in January, when it had increased 0.41%. With this result, the index now accumulates a drop of 0.32% in the year and 2.67% in 12 months. In February 2025, the IGP-M had increased by 1.06% in the month, accumulating a variation of 8.44% in 12 months.
The data was released this Thursday (26) by Fundação Getulio Vargas.
In February, the Broad Producer Price Index (IPA) rate fell 1.18%, reversing the movement when compared to the January rate of 0.34%.
The Consumer Price Index (IPC) registered a rate of 0.30% in February, lower than in January, when the index had risen 0.51%. According to FGV, among the eight expense classes that make up the index, five showed declines in their rates of change: Food (0.66% to 0.17%), Health and Personal Care (0.60% to 0.12%), Education, Reading and Recreation (1.38% to 0.72%), Transport (0.71% to 0.53%) and Clothing (-0.16% to -0.43%). In the opposite direction, the groups Housing (0.06% to 0.33%), Miscellaneous Expenses (0.17% to 0.37%) and Communication (0.00% to 0.01%) had increases
The National Construction Cost Index (INCC) rose 0.34% in February, slowing down compared to the previous month, when it registered an increase of 0.63%. The Materials and Equipment group fell from 0.35% to 0.30%; the Services group increased from 0.25% to 0.36%; and the Labor group decreased from 1.03% to 0.39%.
According to FGV economist André Braz, the IPA, the index with the greatest weight in the IGP, registered a sharp drop in February, driven by the decline in the prices of relevant commodities. During the period, iron ore (-6.92%), soybeans (-6.36%) and coffee (-9.17%) showed significant declines. The other components of the IGP-M also advanced at a more restrained pace than in the previous month.
“In retail, the IPC slowed down with the loss of intensity of the increases in school fees. In construction, labor inflation lost momentum compared to January,” says Braz.
