The AN announced in the afternoon of this February 25 the resignation of Tarek William Saab and Alfredo Ruiz from the positions of attorney general and ombudsman, respectively. Saab did not spend much time out of the political game, since minutes after learning about his departure the Legislature nominated him as defender in charge
The National Assembly (AN) swore in Tarek William Saab and Larry Devoe as ombudsman and attorney general, respectively. Both officials will assume the positions temporarily while the Legislature, through the nominations committee, manages the selection of the people who will hold each position permanently.
The swearing-in took place on the night of February 25, a few hours after his appointment was announced in an ordinary session.
Saab went from one place to another. In the ordinary session, the president of the AN, Jorge Rodríguez, announced his resignation from the position of prosecutor, a position he held since 2017. Minutes later he was nominated as defender in charge. He will temporarily replace Alfredo Ruiz.
In the session it was learned that Alfredo Ruiz indicated that the reason for his resignation is due to personal, family and health reasons, which he must attend to and would prevent him from taking up the position, with the urgency and dedication required.
In the communication in which Tarek William Saab resigns, he argued that he presented his resignation after “having fulfilled this position with nobility and honor in the midst of the historical circumstance of exceptional challenge for the present and future of our Homeland, where we play the constitutional role of preserving peace and protecting the human rights of our people, in a period of unimaginable aggression for the Venezuelan nation. We are proud to have formed, based on the values of republican ethics, a great team that during the time of my administration promoted, together with us, decisive actions in favor of the most vulnerable sectors of society such as children, women, the elderly, pets, among others; “without distinction of their condition.”
The deputies of the opposition bench Timoteo Zambrano, José Brito and José Gregorio Correa, voted in favor of the appointment of Saab as manager. They also supported the replacement of Larry Devoe in the Prosecutor’s Office to replace Saab
