Two fires consume seven homes in Havana

Two fires were reported this Tuesday in different municipalities of Havana. They caused direct damage to at least seven families.

One of the incidents, classified as “large”, consumed three apartments in Centro Habana, leaving three families without their resources, according to the Municipal Assembly of the Popular Power of Centro Habana.

The fire occurred in a house on Escobar Street, number 574, between Reyna and Salud, Popular Council Los Sitios.

The flames were put out “in the shortest time possible”, thanks to the quick operation of the firefighters

Shortly before, journalist Lázaro Manuel Alonso had reported another fire in which four homes were reported affected, of the 22 in a multi-family building in the same municipality.

This building is located in Old Havana, on Monte Street, number 67, between Cárdenas and Zulueta.

In recent times, news of similar incidents have been repeated throughout the island, whose population is suffering from a grueling economic crisis, now exacerbated by the United States oil blockade that is trying to put the Cuban Government against the wall.

The situation has worsened the precariousness, adding hours to the lack of electrical service and causing many families to have to cook their food with firewood and charcoal in places not equipped for it.

Although many of these fires have left no victims, their impact is overwhelming for the affected population and economic entities.
