MIAMI, United States. – The Directorate of Identification, Immigration and Immigration (DIIE) of the Ministry of the Interior (MININT) reported this Wednesday that does not have “cards for the preparation of identity documents”, so it will not be able to issue new cards.
The organization attributed the situation to “the effects caused by the intensification of the economic, commercial and financial blockade applied by the Government of the United States against Cuba.”
According to the information note published on the entity’s social networks, people who “in previous months made the request for a new identity card” and were waiting for the process “due to loss, change of address and deterioration without possibilities of identification, among other reasons”, will be able to go to the corresponding offices to collect “an identity certification”, “if they require it.”
The DIIE added that its Procedures Offices “will continue to respond to requests for identity cards and minor cards” and that, while it is not possible to deliver the final document, “its holders, if needed, will also receive an identity certification, until they can obtain the card that is currently issued.”
The MININT also explained that the identity documents used on the Island “regardless of the expiration date they have, will remain valid as long as they guarantee the full identification of their holder,” and included in that provision “the card in book format and the plastic one.”
According to the same note, “the temporary modifications that are established” will be communicated “to all the bodies and agencies of the Central Administration of the State that provide services to the population,” in order for them to “adjust their protocols.”
The DIIE assured that, “once the country has the necessary supplies,” the production of identity cards and minor cards will resume, and that “the population will be informed in a timely manner of the estimated date for the collection of the document, taking into account the volume of requests that have accumulated up to that point.”
For “situations, doubts or concerns” during the process, the MININT indicated email as contact methods [email protected] and telephone number 18808. The statement concludes with an apology.
