The Mayor’s Office of Santo Domingo Este will readjust the Sabana Larga avenue with wider sidewalksreorganization of intersections, placement of benches and recovery and delimitation of spaces.
It’s about the project “Renovation and Tactical Urbanism of the Sabana Larga avenue“which includes 1.96 kilometers. The first stage covers one kilometer, from the Las Américas highway to the Mella highway and the second from the Mella highway to Francisco Segura Sandoval street.
The cost of the first stage, whose work will be carried out during a period of nine monthswill be 49 million pesos, but the complete work will have an investment of around 100 million pesos.
The work, which will be carried out by the company AGP Limitedaim to prioritize pedestrian space instead of vehicles, whose work will be done in its first stage.
According to him Mayor Dío AstacioPrior to the start of the work, a survey was carried out with citizens and merchants in the area and, according to what was stated, 65.79% of those consulted described the project as excellent.

“Cities cannot be designed only based on those who travel by car. Our city must be designed and structured so that pedestrians can travel in safe spaces, where people with disabilities have inclusive sidewalks that improve their mobility,” said Astacio.
He indicated that the readjustment includes reducing blockages and accidentsthe valorization of the commercial environment, the creation of safer and more accessible spaces, adequate drainage and more durable urban services, in addition to saving time and fuel.
The design includes making more use of the public places in favor of the people for their enjoyment recreation areaswalks without obstacles and the reorganization of the traveling businesses that currently operate on the route.
The project was presented by the Architect Leah Hoepelman and Ronny Núñez, of the company AGP Limited. Hoepelman highlighted that this road, although it is heavily traveled by vehicles, is also an avenue used by a large number of pedestrians.

“We have seen the great real estate development of the Sabana Larga avenuegreat development of infrastructuregreat development of services price per meter square, but our streets are also important and that is the primary message that we want to give you,” he indicated.
Some councilors consulted said they did not know the project and they argued that they have to know it and approve it if so considered.
