The Attorney General of the Republic, Tarek William Saab, reported that the Public Ministry in the state of Monagas achieved a conviction of 22 years and 8 months in prison against three citizens involved in large-scale trafficking of illicit substances.
The convicted persons were identified as Elvis Reyes, Alejandro Peña and Carlos Aular, who were found guilty of the crimes of aggravated trafficking of narcotic and psychotropic substances, as well as conspiracy to commit a crime. The events originated when the subjects were trying to transport a shipment in a minibus-type transport unit that totaled 209 kilos with 200 grams of alleged marijuana and 2 kilos with 2 grams of alleged cocaine.
According to the official report, the cache was intended for marketing and distribution in the eastern region.
With this judicial decision, the Public Ministry ratifies its commitment to the fight against criminal networks that use the national territory for the transit and sale of drugs, in order to ensure that those responsible serve their sentence in a detention center under the strict regulations in force of the penitentiary system.
Within the framework of the “iron fist” policy against drug trafficking, the country’s security forces have intensified surveillance in public transportation and cargo units, which are frequently used by mafias to camouflage illicit substances in double-bottom compartments.
