Santo Domingo.- The Emergency Operations Center (COE) this Tuesday expanded the provinces on green alert to nine due to the rains caused by a frontal system and a prefrontal trough that maintain humid and unstable conditions over the country.
The provinces under alert are: Espaillat, Montecristi, Mirabal Sisters, María Trinidad Sánchez, Puerto Plata, Valverde, Santiago Rodríguez, Santiago and Duarte.
The measure is adopted after the most recent report from the Dominican Institute of Meteorology (Indomet), which warns of downpours of different intensities, isolated electrical storms and gusts of wind during the course of the afternoon and night.

Risk of flooding and flash floods
The authorities warn about possible urban and rural floodingas well as sudden floods of rivers, streams and ravines, especially in vulnerable locations in the north, northeast, northwest, the Cibao valley and mountainous areas.
Indomet explained that the frontal system remains over the western portion of Haiti, while the prefrontal trough It directly affects Dominican territory, favoring significant cloud developments.

Areas where heavier rains are expected
Precipitation will be more frequent and intense during the afternoon in the north, northwest, northeast, the Central Mountain Range and the border area.
In the southeast and southwest, including Greater Santo Domingo, San Cristóbal and San Pedro de Macorís, episodes of rain of variable intensity are expected during the night.
For Wednesday, the rains will continue from early morning in the northern and northeastern regions, while in the afternoon they could extend again to a large part of the national territory.
