With the arrival of extreme heat, thousands of tourists flocked to the coast of the Fifth Region seeking relief from the sea. However, official data from the Navy set off alarms: only 24 beaches of the area are enabled for recreational bathing this season, leaving the vast majority of spas outside the safety category.
What are the authorized beaches of Valparaíso
The safety of vacationers is the absolute priority for maritime authorities, who warn that choosing beaches unsuitable can lead to emergency rescues. Many of these prohibited areas feature dangerous underwater currents or rocky bottoms that cannot be seen with the naked eye, but which represent a deadly risk for those who choose to ignore the red flag.
The difference between a suitable site and a prohibited one lies in very strict technical criteria established by the naval institution. So that the public can enjoy the beaches of Valparaiso with peace of mind, the place must have moderate waves, a gentle slope and, fundamentally, the presence of lifeguards equipped to act in the event of any eventuality or accident.

A fact that surprised many tourists is that emblematic and massive sectors, such as Reñaca, appear this year as beaches not suitable for bathing. This is due to the constant variations in the seabed and the strength of the breakers, which forces visitors to stay on the sand and use the water only to cool their feet, without swimming.
