The Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) considered that the country has lost its way due to the lack of social response from the Government. As an example of this, he pointed out that 60% of the population perceives that their situation has worsened and 70% show concern for the national future..
The organization believes that the speech that President Luis Abinader will give before the National Assembly on February 27 should be the ideal setting to address this problem and not be limited to an isolated presentation.
In its usual Monday press conference, the purple party expressed that it is necessary for the Government to exercise transparency and responsibility regarding cases of corruption committed during the current administration.
“This Government came to power with the promise of fighting corruption and strengthening institutions. However, the events that occurred in 2025 raise legitimate questions, such as the case of Senasa,” said the vice presidents of the PLD: Zoraima Cuello, Temístocles Montás and Yván Lorenzo.
According to what they indicated, more than 80% of the population complains about the prices of the basic family basket and more than 50% shows dissatisfaction with the low and unstable income.
“They are not cold data or percentages of calculations; it is the citizens suffering from the Government’s mistakes. This is because people’s real disposable income barely covers 58% of the basic basket,” they expressed.
In that sense, the PLD demands structural measures to increase the real income of families, beyond this year’s temporary subsidies.
Public investment
Regarding public investment, they consider it pertinent for the president to explain why, in 2025, investment was only around 1.4% of GDP, while transfers to the electricity sector exceeded 1.6% of GDP. “How does the Government justify that more resources have been allocated to cover losses than to expand the country’s productive infrastructure?” they questioned.
The yellow star party stated that this shows the lack of a plan to improve the electricity sector.
