Oliver Blanco is an internationalist and was a key piece in the communication strategy of the Venezuelan opposition. Its incorporation is interpreted as a strategic move by the Executive to project an image of political openness to the international community, in a context of active negotiations with the United States administration. However, the appointment also formalizes versions that circulated unofficially which indicated that Blanco maintained direct links and communication channels with Delcy Rodríguez.
The president in charge, Delcy Rodríguez, made official this Monday the appointment of Oliver Blanco as the new vice minister for Europe and North America. The appointment integrates a figure from the opposition into the Foreign Ministry cabinet, replacing career diplomat Coromoto Godoy in the position.
When reporting on the change, Rodríguez highlighted Blanco’s career:
“As Vice Minister for Europe and North America, I appointed Oliver Blanco, a young Venezuelan in international relations who has been involved in opposition partisan militancy, and maintains a firm commitment to the country. Venezuela will use his commitment and professionalism,” Rodríguez announced.

Politically, Blanco’s incorporation is interpreted as a strategic move by the Executive to project an image of political openness to the international community, in a context of active negotiations with the United States administration. However, the appointment also formalizes versions that circulated unofficially in the political environment, which indicated that Blanco, despite his militancy in the opposition, maintained direct links and communication channels with Delcy Rodríguez.
Oliver Blanco is an internationalist and was a key piece in the communication strategy of the Venezuelan opposition. He was Director of Communications of the National Assembly (AN) in 2016, under the presidency of Henry Ramos Allup. He was part of the youth of the Democratic Action party (AD) and participated in various electoral campaigns of sectors adverse to the Government.
He is founder of the digital media El Cooperante and maintains closeness with the current board of directors of the Venezuelan Red Cross.
Through a statement on his social networks, Blanco thanked the appointment and stated that he assumes the responsibility with “deep awareness of the historical moment,” valuing the position as an opportunity to “open spaces for different visions at the service of the country.”
