Ivonne Ledezma Ron, Lina Ron's daughter who won a seat in the National Assembly

For the 2026-2031 period of the National Assembly (AN), deputy Ivonne Ledezma Ron, daughter of the deceased political leader, founder of the Venezuelan Popular Unity (UPV), Lina Ron, and Yldemar Ledezma, political coordinator of the Bolivarian Civic Military Front of Guárico, will join.

Lina Ron was born in Anaco, Anzoátegui state. His cause in the Venezuelan left began in the committees of popular struggles; She sought to fight on behalf of the most dispossessed.

In Caracas there is an emblematic site of the city that keeps part of its legacy: what was formerly known as Plaza Andrés Eloy Blanco, today Plaza Lina Ron, located on the corner of Santa Capilla, in the historic center of the capital. In that place, Lina used to meet with the combative people who defended the Revolution.

One of the memories of his struggles was when he chained himself with more than 2,000 people in the Plaza Bolívar in Caracas, because the late metropolitan mayor, Alfredo Peña, had fired workers who were demanding labor demands.

In 2004 he founded the revolutionary party Unidad Popular Venezolana (UPV), with an anti-imperialist character, a political banner added to the Bolivarian project of Commander Hugo Chávez and the Revolution.

His physical disappearance occurred due to a myocardial infarction. “Eternally alive”, this is how it was declared by the people and by Commander Hugo Chávez, that March 5, 2011, at the time of its planting.

Her daughter, Ivonne, who occupies a seat in the Venezuelan Parliament for the first time, shares her vision on social work in the Families Commission, Freedom of Religion and Worship of the AN, the national dialogue process and the validity of her mother’s legacy in current politics.

—Which commission are you on and what are the projects you have for this legislative year?

—It is a great responsibility that youth have now in times of Revolution.

It is my first time in the National Assembly and it is an honor to be part of this commitment to the people and the laws for the country.

I am in the Family Commission, specifically in the Children and Adolescents subcommittee. It is a commission that fulfills me a lot, because social work has always characterized me, both me and my family. For us the family is great, not only of blood, but that which one builds on the path of defending the Homeland.

—How is this heritage reflected from your mother, Lina Ron, who is remembered as a grassroots fighter?

—It comes from my roots; from my mother, from my maternal grandmother Herminia de Ron and from my father, who was also a great social fighter. We grew up with the training of helping others.

My mother started her social career here in Caracas and had the most difficult time of the Revolution, when the streets had to be taken from the opposition for Commander Chávez. Many say she was aggressive, but history led her to that role. Personally, she was an extremely sensitive, intelligent and analytical woman; She liked knitting, embroidering and cooking. Many tell me that she was a defense of the Homeland, above all, and we continue to be, but this is another moment: a moment of dialogue, peace and reconciliation.

—How does that legacy of your mother influence today, taking into account the communes and the prominence that President Nicolás Maduro and the acting president Delcy Rodríguez give to the people?

—It absolutely influences. In the debates on the Amnesty Law, we have seen that our people are wise and do not want confrontations, they want dialogue and peace. It is not about handing over sovereignty or surrendering, but rather about direct dialogue.

The acting president Delcy Rodríguez has stood up for everyone in a very difficult role, especially after situations such as the kidnapping of President Nicolás Maduro and the first combatant Cilia Flores by the empire. Regarding the communes, President Nicolás Maduro made Chávez’s “Community or nothing” possible.

On March 8 we will have the first communal elections of this year and the town is already organized.

—Regarding your role in the National Assembly, what is that proposal that you would like to bring to the commission’s debate?

—Particularly, I would like to work on the issue of adoptions. It is a critical issue that touches on culture and emotions, but it is necessary. There are many children lacking love and many families willing to give it. It is an issue in which we must advance from love, because from childhood the future is built and the country is built. We need to rescue and be rescued too.

—How is the structure of the party that your mother founded currently?

—My mother founded the UPV (Venezuelan Popular Unity) first as a social movement and then, at the request of President Chávez, it became a political party.

One follows orders. Currently, the presidency of the party is held by Henry Hernández. We are working hand in hand at the national level, always moving forward.
