Saint Dominic.- The People’s Force party (FP) reiterated its position of rejection of the bill that proposes the merger of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology with the Ministry of Education.
The entity’s position was made known through a document issued by the Secretariat of Higher Education, in which it reiterates its rejection of the merger of the MESCyT and the MINERD, considering that the Government’s initiative “constitutes a setback for the country’s education.”
Likewise, he points out that, in his first public statements, the newly appointed minister of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology, Rafael Santos Badía, stated that “from now on there will no longer be talk of a merger, but of a ‘comprehensive reform’ of education; however, the bill submitted by the Government to the National Congress establishes the merger of the two ministries, in which the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology disappears.”
He adds: “Once again, the lack of institutionality of the current administration is confirmed, which is mainly manifested by not giving continuity to projects and programs established in previous governments, which have contributed to the development of the country.” He also adds that an “even more serious” element of the measure is that “the programs are suppressed without a prior evaluation to justify such a decision.”
The document recalls that the current legal framework, Law 139-01, represented an advance for higher education, science and technology, by providing for the creation of the National System of Higher Education, Science and Technology and establishing the regulations for its operation.
