LISBON, Portugal. – Within the framework of his official agenda, the Dominican Minister of Defense, Lieutenant General Carlos Antonio Fernández Onofre, carried out a technical inspection of the Portuguese Navy base to validate the capabilities of the “Tejo” class high altitude patrol vessel, a unit identical to those recently acquired by the Dominican Government.
The main objective of the visit was to verify the reliability and performance in real missions of these vessels. Minister Fernández Onofre received detailed explanations about the modular architecture and propulsion systems of the ships, which stand out for their Logistical sustainability and low maintenance costkey factors to guarantee a permanent presence in Dominican waters.
“This field verification confirms that the ‘Tejo’ class patrol vessels are proven naval platforms that offer an exceptional combination of autonomy and speed,” highlighted the Defense Minister.
With this acquisition, aligned with President Luis Abinader’s vision of modernization, the Navy of the Dominican Republic (ARD) will have a cutting-edge tool for maritime interdiction, the fight against drug trafficking and search and rescue (SAR) missions.
