The sinking of a vessel in Ubatuba, on the North Coast, during the heavy rains recorded on Saturday night (21) left two people dead. Three other castaways who were on the boat were rescued alive by crew members from another vessel sailing in the same area, close to the Ponta Grossa neighborhood, according to information from the Maritime Fire Brigade (GBMar).
The rain also caused the flooding of around 400 houses in the city, resulting in 15 homeless families and 15 people left homeless. Three schools were flooded: EMEI Professor Alba Regina Torraque da Silva and Escola José de Souza Simeão, in the Taquaral neighborhood; and the Escola Nativa Fernandes de Faria, in Sertão da Quina. According to Civil Defense, the rainfall in the city reached 151 millimeters (mm).
The section between kilometer (Km) 80 and Km 84 of the Oswaldo Cruz Highway (SP-125), in Serra de Ubatuba, was closed. Between Km 64 and 69, access to the Serra section in Ubatuba, there are three closure points. The location was signposted and traffic was diverted to SP-099 Rodovia dos Tamoios. Teams from the Department of Highways (DRE) are working to open the highway.
South Coast
In Peruíbe, the rain reached 97 mm accompanied by gales, generating floods, flooding, landslides and undermining of roads, with a temporary closure of the Serra do Guaraú. One person had minor injuries and another was left homeless and taken to the city hall shelter.
In Mongaguá, intense rain, with strong winds, caused flooding and falling trees, but left no victims, homeless or homeless.
