On the last day of carnival in Rio de Janeiro, this Sunday (22), the big highlight is the Monobloco parade, on Rua Primeiro de Março, in the center. One of the icons of Rio’s festivities, the group stands out for its mix of rhythms and musical styles. The eclectic repertoire incorporates traditional marchinhas, samba by Cartola and Clara Nunes, xote by Alceu Valença, forró by Luiz Gonzaga, funk from Ludmilla, pop by Anitta, as well as songs by Paralamas do Sucesso, Raul Seixas and Tim Maia.
In total, 462 blocks were authorized to parade in Rio’s carnival by the Rio Municipal Tourism Company (Riotur), which expects to receive 6.8 million revelers just in the street blocks spread throughout the city.
