President Abinader inaugurates the Monción aqueduct in Santiago Rodríguez

Saint Dominic. The president Luis Abinader and Wellington Arnaud, executive director of the National Institute of Drinking Water and Sewage (INAPA), inaugurated the Monción-Sabaneta multiple aqueduct, Santiago Rodríguez province, a work claimed for more than 20 years.

Arnaud stated that this important project will benefit more than 26 thousand people and breaks with the absurd situation of a province with a dam, but whose main municipality and other districts did not enjoy a correct and efficient drinking water supply service.

The work involved an investment of RD$1,645,677,050.00.

The executive director of INAPA maintained that, in the case of the Santiago Rodríguez province, “from 2004 to 2020 only 24 million pesos were invested, while in the five years of Government of President Luis Abinader, more than RD$1.6 billion have been investedwhich shows that this management prioritizes the well-being of the people.

Arnaud highlighted that, during the construction process, all the streets had to be intervened to install the distribution networks of the more than 17 benefited communities, including Monción, La Cacique, Los Quemados, Veladero, Las Caobas, Los Tabacos, El Orégano, El Cepillo, Los Pinos, Guamachal, Los Bañaderos, Garabito, La Estancia, Gurabo, Loma del Tanque, Los Ingenitos and La Meseta.

The official stated that President Luis Abinader made a promise, which is being fulfilled today, to bring drinking water with quality, quantity and pressure to every home of the people of Moncion and surrounding towns, which for more than 20 years were forgotten despite having a dam.

“The aqueduct that President Luis Abinader puts into operation today will transform the lives of families in this industrious city,” he stated.

Meanwhile, community member Juan Vélez expressed his gratitude.

“We feel very grateful for the work they have done to bring water to our community of Los Quemados, this work heals a wound that was open for decades due to the lack of drinking water,” he said.

Technical details of the Monción aqueduct

The aqueduct includes a new rapid filtration water treatment plant, of 70 liters per second; rehabilitation of the existing one; relay station; installation of 4,000 connections and drive line; installation of a conduction line and construction of a 1,200 cubic meter surface regulatory tank.

Likewise, the construction of surface regulatory tanks in reinforced concrete with a capacity of 300 cubic meters in La Meseta, 200 cubic meters in Las Caobas and 300 cubic meters in Los Quemados.

The Monción aqueduct joins the new works inaugurated in Las Matas de Farfán, Azua, Villa Altagracia and Navarrete as part of a national program of inaugurations carried out by INAPA, which will extend throughout the year.
