In just two years, the Ministry of Communications granted 312 authorizations for Empresa Brasil de Comunicação (EBC) and TV Câmara to broadcast their channels to more than 150 Brazilian cities.
Of the total number of assignments – a specific form of grant (transmission authorization) that the State grants to bodies, authorities or public companies such as EBC interested in providing some broadcasting service – granted throughout 2024 and 2025, 157 authorize the retransmission of channels TV Brasil, Gov Channel, Health Channel and Education Channeloperated by EBC.
The other 155 authorizations were granted to TV Câmara. And they automatically allow the joint transmission of signals from TV Senado, state legislative assemblies and municipal cameras.
The so-called assignments were granted within the scope of the Brazil Digital programcreated in 2024, to expand the supply of public TV channels in the country: the selected partner institutions – which may be bodies or entities of direct or indirect public administration (federal, state, district or municipal) – provide the locations and basic infrastructure necessary for the installation of digital TV stations.
The federal program also allows the sharing of infrastructure implemented by private broadcasters, expanding the diversity of free and open television programming offered to the Brazilian population.
According to the Ministry of Communications, 15 cities have already been covered by the program and theAnother 385 municipalities already have resources secured for the implementation of stations. Around R$100 million allocated to fund the New Growth Acceleration Program (PAC) initiative. Another R$ 105.5 million, from amounts collected with the notice of the 4G (fourth generation) technology auction.
