The former Minister of Public Works, Víctor Díaz Rúa yesterday assessed the ruling of the Constitutional Court (TC) on the Odebrecht case, which he said put a definitive end to nine years of injustice against him.
He stated that despite the moral damage that was done to him, the time of life and work lost, and a lot of money, a lot of money that cannot be recovered, “I came out stronger from that process due to the support of my family, my friends and the people in general who also supported me.”
He said that on the other hand, the Public Ministry and the court judges who convicted him when he was innocent, show that they are only there to accuse and condemn.
“One cannot say that it feels good because we had to wait 9 years for a court to realize that Odebrecht was a very poorly done case, an accusation full of errors, inaccuracies and lies, also very selective, since they did not accuse all those who first got into the group and also left the works of Danilo Medina’s government, such as Punta Catalina,” stressed Díaza Rúa.
He regretted that despite this, after Jean Alain Rodríguez left the Attorney General’s Office, “the Public Ministry continues with the file knowing that it was a huge accusation,” Dìaz Rúa emphasized.
inept judges
This is how Díaz Rúa described the judges of the first collegiate court who convicted him for alleged falsehood in a sworn statement, a crime that he said the MP did not include in his accusation.
He indicated that in addition to the fact that this was false, the omissions in the affidavit did not carry a penalty under the previous law.
“The lesson that the Odebrecht case leaves in the Dominican Republic is that here they do not know how to prepare files, and that the Public Ministry and the judges act with impunity because there is no regime of consequence for them,” concluded Víctor Díaz Rúa in an interview with this reporter by telephone.
