Young samba schools parade this Friday in Marquês de Sapucaí

The new generation of samba will take over Marquês de Sapucaí, in Rio de Janeiro, this Friday (20). Starting at 5pm, 12 children’s samba schools cross the avenue, in a parade that precedes the Special Group Champions Saturday and reaffirms the role of children’s groups as a storehouse of talent in Rio’s carnival.Young samba schools parade this Friday in Marquês de Sapucaí

The opening, at 5pm, will be with Infantes do Lins, which develops social projects in the Lins de Vasconcelos neighborhood, in the north zone, and uses samba as a tool for inclusion.

Among the junior schools, the majority work on the artistic training of children and adolescents within larger schools in the special group.

This is the case of 11 of the 12 schools that parade this Friday: Herdeiros da Vila is linked to the traditional Vila Isabel; Pimpolhos da Grande Rio is the junior branch of the Duque de Caxias school and Tijuquinha do Borel reinforces the cultural identity of the Tijuca community.

The same can be said about Estrelinha da Mocidade; Mangueira do Ajante; from Aprendizes do Salgueiro; Sonho do Beija-Flor; Filhos da Águia, heiress of Portela; from Crias Imperatriz; from Netinhos do Tuiuti; and Virando Esperança, born from 2026 champion, Unidos do Viradouro.

Transit

The Rio de Janeiro Traffic Engineering Company (CET-Rio) will implement a special operation to reduce impacts on mobility in the central region. The closures around the Sambadrome begin at 11am on Friday (20). At 1pm, the side lane of Avenida Presidente Vargas, towards Candelária, between the junction in front of the Cedae building and Rua de Santana will be closed.

From 3pm onwards, there will be new closures on Presidente Vargas, in addition to closures on Avenida Salvador de Sá and adjacent streets, such as Frei Caneca and Senhor de Matosinhos. At midnight on Saturday (21), the central lane of Presidente Vargas will be closed in sections in both directions.
