The president of the republic, José María Balcázar, highlighted the work of Julio Velarde at the head of the Central Reserve Bank (BCR) and announced that he will talk with said official, whom he described as a reference in monetary management.
“It is necessary (to dialogue) because Velarde is a good reference, not only in currency management in the country but internationally.”, he noted on National Radio.
The new head of state added that Velarde is “a positive man” who can provide ideas on the management of the country.
“Let him give us the ideas that he has regarding the country that we all want“said the president.
Regarding Velarde’s continuity in office, President Balcázar clarified that he has not made decisions on his ratification and that any determination in this regard will be the product of dialogue.
“I’m going to talk first with Mr. Velarde, we have to talk”, he noted.
“He (Velarde) is an official who is in charge of the Central Bank and what you have to do is talk to him to see what his ideas are regarding the monetary and financial management of the country.”he added.
Regarding the ministerial cabinet, the dignitary pointed out that there are still no names defined for the Presidency of the Council of Ministers and that he will first evaluate the continuity of the current ministers, prioritizing technical capacity and willingness to collaborate in their administration.
“We will look for good technicians to advance immediate solutions“, said.
Dialogue with all banks and institutions
The head of state also emphasized that he is an independent president and guaranteed that he will coordinate with all parties in Parliament and not with one in particular. In addition, he noted that this dialogue will extend to other institutions such as the Judiciary and the Public Ministry, among others.
“In no way are we going to try to bias…There is no such tendency here”, he stated.
