The Brazilian government expressed, this Wednesday (18), its intention to establish cooperation with India for the production of medicines and vaccines. The Minister of Health, Alexandre Padilha, is part of President Lula’s delegation who is in New Delhi to participate in the summit on the impact of artificial intelligence.
According to Padilha, as announced by the government, the partnership proposal includes public institutions and companies from both countries to produce oncology medicines and also medicines to combat tropical diseases.
Public systems
In a meeting with Indian ministers Jagat Prakash Nadda (Health and Family Welfare) and Prataprao Jadhav (Traditional Medicine), Padilha also presented the intention of expanding actions and exchanging experiences on the population’s free access to health services.
“Brazil and India have robust public systems, strong scientific capacity and a strategic role in the Global South. Our cooperation in health can expand the population’s access to medicines, strengthen local production and boost innovation”, stated the Brazilian minister.
Padilha invited Indians to join the Global Coalition for Local and Regional Production, Innovation and Equitable Access. “We want India and Brazil to be at the forefront of a new international health agenda based on local production, innovation and solidarity cooperation”, he considered.
Artificial intelligence
Another discussion between authorities in Brazil and India was related to the use of digital technologies and artificial intelligence to organize public health systems.
According to Padilha, exchanges in digital health can collaborate with the modernization of the SUS, expand access and improve care for the population.
Another proposal was the implementation of a digital library of traditional medicine, bringing together scientific evidence, protocols, clinical studies, historical records and good practices on integrative and complementary health practices.
