The sudden flooding of a stream once again highlighted the lack of road infrastructure in the town center of Micaela Bastidas, in the Ene Valley, after two trucks were swept away by the current during the early hours of February 18.
The tributary, which crosses the highway that connects Pangoa with the Ene Valley, increased its flow due to the intense rains recorded in the area. The drivers, who were covering the route between Micaela Bastidas and Pichari, tried to cross it; However, the force of the water overwhelmed the units and displaced them several meters.
Fortunately, the occupants managed to get out in time and no injuries were reported. After the incident, transporters and residents organized to recover the vehicles and, with the support of heavy machinery, managed to remove them from the riverbed.
The event revived the demand of the inhabitants, who demand the urgent construction of a bridge. They point out that every rainy season the stream grows and leaves the population cut off, affecting transportation and access to basic services.
