Caggiani: “30 million euros were advanced for scrap” in Cardama ocean patrols

Caggiani stated that the contract already registers a non-compliance of at least five months and detailed other irregularities: lack of certification for construction under the national flag, delivery of less than 50% of what was promised, construction problems and outsourcing.

The legislator maintained that the operation was not beneficial for the country and stressed that almost 30 million euros were advanced to a company that, according to him, does not have certification for this type of patrol boats.

Furthermore, he described the situation as “almost a fraud” against the Uruguayan State and warned that it could have political and criminal consequences. He also questioned the lack of responsibilities assumed by those who signed the contract.

Regarding a possible termination, he indicated that the State is advancing a legal process and that the contract will be terminated when appropriate. According to him, the patrols should have been ready three months ago and “so far what we have is junk.”

Finally, he maintained that “the only one that handed over things was the Uruguayan State: first sovereignty and then money in exchange for nothing,” and affirmed that those responsible must respond to Justice and Parliament.
