We must continue the work to create export culture

The livestock sector has the opportunity to export to international markets, but for this, investment in the field, financing and protection of producers and increasing production must continue, understands the director of the General Directorate of Livestock (Digega), Abel Wood.

He said that this is what the Government and Digega will be focused on in the coming years, so that the sector continues its growth and has new alternative export markets.

He specified that, in addition, an export culture must be created, which is why, he indicated, educational work must be done with producers.

“Sometimes the prices here are better than in the international market, but we neglect those markets and when we want to recover it there is already someone else who has taken it and that is why we have to do educational work,” he said.

He assured that the country is doing well in animal health measures and that with the exception of pork, there are privileges in many areas for its export.

“The export of eggs has been growing enormously. Last year we doubled the amount of export there was and they continue to grow and open new markets,” he said.

The director of Digega assured that the livestock sector is currently in a leading moment due to the situation of prices at international level. He said that agriculture has had great importance in contributing to the country’s GDP in recent years.
