A young father lost his life during an anti-drug operation carried out by agents of the National Police in the province of Churcampa, Huancavelica region. The incident occurred in the sector known as “Palta Torongana”, in circumstances that have not yet been officially clarified.
The victim was identified as Juan Carlos Osores Peña (34), a native of Llochegua, in the province of Huanta. According to his relatives and residents, the young man was dedicated to the transportation service on the Huanta-Churcampa route and was intervened when he was transporting coca leaves. During the intervention, one of the officers fired a shot that ended his life.
The incident generated a wave of indignation in the population, who denounced the alleged misuse of firearms and demanded an impartial investigation. The wife of the deceased arrived in Churcampa and, through tears, asked for justice, truth and transparency, in addition to denouncing that she is not allowed to see her husband’s body.
Hours later, dozens of residents took to the streets to protest and demand punishment for those responsible and an immediate statement from the authorities. The situation became tense when the Police tried to disperse the protesters with tear gas. People affected during the clashes were reported.
The protesters also expressed their intention to take over the police station and burn the patrol car that participated in the operation; However, they were dispersed by the National Police, who used tear gas to control the situation.
