Santo Domingo.– The president Luis Abinader appointed Andrés Modesto Cruz Cruz as the new general director of the National Policethrough decree 111-26, in the context of the reform process that is being developed in the institution.
Cruz Cruz, who served as inspector general of the law enforcement agency, assumes police leadership, replacing Ramon Antonio Guzman Peraltawho was placed in retirement after ceasing his duties and appointed advisor to the Executive Branch on police matters, in accordance with current legislation.
The provision is based on articles 255 and 256 of the Constitution of the Republic and Law No. 590-16, Organic of the National Police, which empowers the president to appoint the head of the law enforcement body from among active general officers. Likewise, the decree repeals article 1 of Decree no. 557-23.
Profile and experience
The new head of the National Police has held strategic positions within the institution, including director of Internal Affairs, Southern regional director, director of Liaison between the Ministry of Defense and the National Police, as well as director of Internal Control. Since 2023, he has served as inspector general.

Cruz Cruz served as inspector general of the National Police since 2023. He has held strategic positions within the institution, including director of Internal Affairs, Southern regional director, director of Liaison between the Ministry of Defense and the National Police and director of Internal Control.
He is a civil engineer, graduated from the Pedro Henríquez Ureña National University (UNPHU), and has a master’s degree in Defense and National Security. During his career he has received multiple decorations for his institutional performance.
Throughout his career he has received various decorations, including the Medal of Merit for Public Servants in First Categoryas well as recognitions from the Armed Forces and the National Police itself.

In the same decision, the elder generatesl Ramón Antonio Guzmán Peralta was placed in honorable retirement status behind him cessation of his functions and appointed advisor to the Executive Branch in police matters.
