Brazil’s participation in the bobsled competitions for two bobsled athletes (the so-called “2-men”) came to an end this Tuesday (17) at the Milan and Cortina Games, in Italy.
The duo formed by Edson Bindilatti from Bahia and Luís Bacca from São Paulo finished in 24th place, the country’s best placement in the event at a Winter Olympics.
The result surpasses that of the Games in Beijing, China, in 2022, by three places, when Bindilatti went down the ice rink accompanied by Edson Martins, also from São Paulo. Four years earlier, in PyeongChang, South Korea, the pair of namesakes placed 29th in Brazil’s debut in the 2-men Olympic competition.
The Brazilians made three descents, two on Monday (16) and one on Tuesday. To be entitled to a fourth attempt, they would have to finish the third among the top 20.
They improved their mark compared to the first day, but were still 1.29 behind the duo of Martin Kranz and David Tschofen, from Liechtenstein, 20th place, in the total of times.
Brazil still has the 4-men ahead, which is the bobsled category for four athletes and the main event for the green and yellow team. In addition to the members of 2-men, the quartet comprises Davidson de Souza from São Paulo, Boka, and Rafael Souza from Rio. The latter, like Bindilatti, helped the Brazilian sled to achieve 20th place in Beijing.
The quartet begins official training this Wednesday (18). The first two descents take place on Saturday (21), starting at 6 am (Brasília time). The last two on Sunday (22), at the same time. The dispute marks the retirement of Bindilatti, a Brazilian bobsled pilot, who is participating, in Milan-Cortina, in the sixth Winter Olympics of his career.
