The National Police (PN) this Tuesday shot dead a man whom he defined as a known criminal in the sector La Guayigafrom the municipality of Pedro Brand, Santo Domingo province. The entity reported that he was wanted for alleged criminal acts committed in January and February of this 2026.
He stated that Yunior Vargas Samboyof 31 yearsnicknamed “Picachu” and/or “El Pelú” confronted with shots a police patrol that was carrying out a preventive operation.

The Police indicated that the deceased was actively sought for multiple criminal acts and blood.
According to the preliminary report, the incident occurred after agents were alerted about a vehicle with suspicious profile in the area and when trying to stop him for verification purposes, Vargas Samboy would have pulled out a Glock brand pistol, caliber 9 millimeters, serial CAC2638, carrying out several shots against the active patrol.
“Faced with the attack, the agents found themselves in the urgent need to repel the attack, resulting in the alleged criminal being injured, who was taken to the Dr. Vinicio Calventi Hospitalwhere he died while receiving medical attention,” the note stated.
The Police reported that, during the operation, a gray Daihatsu Mira vehicle, license plate A956108, was seized, which was driven by a citizen of 30 yearswho accompanied the deceased, along with another 33-year-old man. Both individuals are detained and low investigation for the corresponding legal purposes.
In addition, the Glock brand pistol was confiscated, a bulletproof vest serial No. 69989E/93UE5 and a balaclava that he carried “Picachu“.

According to the institution of orderVargas Samboy was sought for his alleged participation in various violent events.
