Mocidade Alegre is the new champion of São Paulo Carnival. The counting of the judges’ votes took place this Tuesday afternoon (17) and the victory came after a fierce dispute against Gaviões da Fiel and Dragões da Real.
The champion’s score was 269.8 points. Gaviões, runner-up, got 269.7 points. Dragões, third placed, had 269.6 points.
The Joyful Youth paraded at the Anhembi Sambadrome on the second night with the samba-plot “Malunga Léa, Rhapsody of a Black Goddess” highlighted the role of actress Léa Garcia for racial equality in the country and her trajectory as a militant and leader in theater and cinema. She died in 2023, at the age of 90.
The Mocidade parade at the Anhembi Sambódromo made reference to some of Léa’s main works, such as the classic soap opera Escrava Isaura, released by Globo in 1976. Other works with the actress’ participation in cinema were also mentioned, such as the film Orfeu Negro, from 1959.
With this achievement, Mocidade Alegre reaches its 13th title at the São Paulo carnival. The school’s last title was in 2024.
Rosas de Ouro, champion of the 2025 São Paulo Carnival, was relegated. The school was penalized and entered the Sambadrome with half a point less. Rosas only managed 268.4 points, which took them to the Access Group. The Golden Eagle, with 268.2 points, was also relegated.
Academicos do Tucuruvi, champion of this year’s Access Group, will be in the Special Group in 2027.
The Black Pearl also moves up to the Special Group. The school finished tied with Mancha Verde, both with 269.4 points, but Pérola came out on top in the tiebreaker criteria.
