Santo Domingo, RD.– The former consul of Haiti in the Dominican Republic, Edwin Paraison, expressed his solidarity with the young man’s family Naurel Nizael Medina14 years old, who died allegedly at the hands of Haitian nationals in the Los Minas sector, and assured that the incident responded to a conflict of a passionate nature and not to an issue of nationalities.
As Paraison explained, the teenager was romantically involved with people named in the case, which would have led to a conflictive relationship that ended in tragedy. “It is a purely passionate situation,” said the former diplomat, pointing out that an event of this nature could have occurred in any other area of the country.
He stated that the event is not related to the presence of Haitian citizens in Los Minas, in the Santo Domingo Este municipality. “That tragedy could have occurred anywhere in the world or country,” he said.

Paraison also requested that psychological and pastoral support be provided to the affected families, as well as to the young woman linked to the event, to avoid possible emotional consequences. “We must pray for the young girl so that she does not develop feelings of guilt for this drama,” he said.
Call to the authorities
The former official took advantage of the occasion to make a call to the President of the Republic, Luis Abinaderto activate the Follow-up Commission of the Dialogue on Haiti, held recently.
He indicated that recommendations emerged from that meeting aimed at strengthening the binational relationship, with contributions from the diaspora and the business sector of both countries. “We ask the president to activate the successful plan of the Commission to Follow-up on the Dialogue on Haiti,” he emphasized.
He added that the proposals seek to improve relations between both nations and promote peaceful coexistence.
March in Los Minas
After the tragic event, the group called “The Ancient Order” held a protest march last Sunday, February 15 in Los Minas, demanding the repatriation of Haitian citizens who are in Dominican territory.
The protesters gave the authorities a period of 10 days to carry out mass expulsions and warned that, if they did not receive a response, they would take action on their own.
The march moved to 52nd Street in the Katanga neighborhood, near the residence of the victim’s relatives, and was attended by residents of the sector and supporters of the organizing group.
