The counselor of the National Administration of Public Education, Elbia Pereira, informed EL ECO that some 171,000 students will receive the benefit. The payment will reach students belonging to quintiles 1, 2 and 3.
In addition, starting February 18, families will be able to check if they access the bonus through an official web search engine. To verify it, you must enter the child’s identity card.
The BPS will pay the bonus along with the family allowance to those who already receive it. Meanwhile, families that do not receive an allocation will be able to collect the money through enabled collection networks.
Regarding the schoolchildren who are left out of the benefit—about 130,000—Pereira highlighted that the scope grew compared to last year. In 2025 the bonus covered only quintiles 1 and 2 (110,000 children), while this year quintile 3 was incorporated, raising coverage to 171,000 schoolchildren. He also announced that the objective is to expand the scope to more quintiles in 2027.
Given scam attempts detected in recent days, the authorities warned that the only valid way to verify access to the bonus will be through the official search engine. They recommend not responding to messages from WhatsApp or other platforms that request personal data, as this is a common method used by scammers.
