In the midst of the debate announced in the Congress of the Republic on the motions of censure linked to President José Jerí, the National Confederation of Private Business Institutions (CONFIEP) issued a public statement in which it warned about the direct impact that these episodes generate on confidence, investment and employment.
The country’s main business union maintained that Peru is going through an electoral process and that it cannot afford a new stage of political uncertainty, recalling that the experience of the last decade shows that instability has concrete costs in economic growth and job creation.
“Stability is not optional”
In its statement, CONFIEP was emphatic: governability must be preserved regardless of the outcome of the motions in process. For the union, the country needs clear signals of institutional responsibility at a particularly sensitive time.
“Stability is not optional,” the organization stressed, warning that each episode of political crisis has a direct impact on the real economy, affecting investment decisions and business expansion plans.
Likewise, he urged political forces to guarantee the continuity of public management and preserve the technical teams and competent officials whose work is essential for the functioning of the State. According to the union, recent experience shows that abrupt changes in public administration can paralyze strategic projects and generate cost overruns.
In a second point, CONFIEP indicated that the events attributed to President José Jerí must be investigated with rigor, objectivity and speed. The organization emphasized that public trust is based on transparency and the impartial actions of the authorities.
“The country needs clarity and definitions, not prolongation of uncertainties,” said the union, warning that prolonged processes without resolution affect both political stability and the business climate.
Economic continuity in the electoral stage
The statement also placed emphasis on the electoral context. According to CONFIEP, electoral processes usually generate natural volatility in the markets; However, when that volatility is combined with an extended political crisis, the impact is greater.
The union warned that, in this scenario, investment decisions tend to be postponed, which has a direct impact on employment and the situation of thousands of families, especially small and medium-sized companies that depend on economic dynamism.
