The largest opposition coalition in Venezuela, the Democratic Unitary Platform (PUD), expressed this Monday its solidarity with the ten women, relatives of political prisoners, who remain chained and on hunger strike outside the headquarters of the Bolivarian National Police (PNB) in Boleíta, known as Zone 7, to demand the release of his relatives.
“We express our deepest solidarity with the relatives of the political prisoners who remain on hunger strike today,” the PUD wrote on social network X. The alliance demanded the “immediate, full and unconditional release of all political prisoners.”
“There can be no reconciliation or justice as long as persecution and imprisonment for political reasons persist. Enough of so much suffering! Venezuela deserves freedom and dignity,” the coalition added in its statement.
Relatives of political prisoners on hunger strike
The group of women, several of whom have already presented health problems, began the strike at 6:00 am on Saturday and remain on mats outside the command, where they have received care from nurses and doctors.
The relatives assure that a group of political prisoners in that police center have also been on hunger strike since Friday.
In X, the NGO Committee for the Freedom of Political Prisoners (clipp) denounced that police officers prevented the entry of hydrating serums for the striking detainees, “without offering any explanation.”
“This hydration ban adds to the denial of medical care, which seriously aggravates the health status of detained people,” the organization warned.
Failure of Jorge Rodríguez
The protest – according to Clipp – is carried out “in response to the non-compliance” of the President of Parliament, Jorge Rodríguez, who on February 6 promised the release of “all” political prisoners once the amnesty law was approved, which he estimated would occur “at the latest” on Friday. However, the Legislature, controlled by Chavismo, postponed the second and final debate necessary for the approval of the law on Thursday to this week, due to differences in an article.
At the same time, opposition parties broadcast a video on
In the Zone 7 command there were 17 releases on Saturday, reported the head of Parliament.
The releases and the debate on the amnesty are part of a “new political moment”, announced by the president in charge, Delcy Rodríguez, who took office after the capture of Nicolás Maduro in a US military operation in Caracas on January 3.
