A carnival block that transforms the classics of the English group Black Sabbath into Brazilian rhythms. This is the idea of Bloco Sabbath, which performed for the first time in 2026 and brought together dozens of rock fans on a block in the Perdizes neighborhood, in the capital of São Paulo, on the afternoon of this Monday (16). The group created the block in 2019, with the aim of debuting in 2020, but the Covid-19 pandemic postponed the plans.

“Everything changed in 2025, after Black Sabbath’s final show in July and the death of Ozzy Osbourne weeks later. We saw this as a calling and brought together those interested to make it happen,” says the block in a post on social media.

The lead singer of the block band, Daniel Sollero, said that the idea of creating the block came from his wife, who managed to convince him to combine Brazilian rhythms such as maracatu, frevo, afro, samba, reggae, with the songs of Black Sabbath and its founder Ozzy Orbourne, who died in 2025.

“We got together with the Cerne brewery who also wanted a block and we managed to do this beautiful thing, a lot of people coming to enjoy it. Carnival is a celebration of life and we are celebrating Ozzy’s life and work”, he stated.

Singer Paula Souto went to the block to accompany her husband, who is a fan of the band, and watch her friends sing. She said she loved the idea of mixing rock with carnival.

“I like rock, I’ve been to several Black Sabbath shows, but I confess that I don’t know all the songs. My husband is more of a rocker than me. My husband is more of a rocker than me, but I’m going to have fun the same way.”

Actress Margo de Cobervile, 65 years old, went to the block because she thought the proposal was irreverent and the mix of heavy metal with Brazilian rhythms brought a special color to the festivities.

“I’m a big fan of rock, Black Sabbath and carnival is the most democratic event we have in Brazil. Many people criticize carnival, they say it’s the devil’s thing, however, it’s a manifestation that, in addition to generating a lot of jobs, brings joy and expresses our culture, our values,” he said.
