More than 10 traffic accidents were recorded between Saturday the 14th and the morning of this Sunday, February 15th in Portuguesa, which is why the authorities make an “urgent call” for conscience during the Carnival.
“The accident rates continue to increase,” warned Civil Protection on its Telegram channel.
The report indicates that the majority of cases involve motorized vehicles, reminding them that the use of a safety helmet is essential, “your life depends on it.”
Both Civil Protection and Fire Department officials have been responding to emergencies resulting from these accidents in different areas of Portuguesa.
“We urgently call for the conscience of drivers,” the organization stressed.
Recovac on the highway
To reduce road accident rates, the Speed Reduction and Control device (Recovac) is applied on the section of the José Antonio Páez highway belonging to Portuguesa.
The measure is part of the Safe Carnivals Plan 2026 and is in charge of the National Institute of Land Transportation (Intt), Bolivarian National Police (PNB), People’s Guard and Public Ministry.
The authorities specified that the Recovac is executed along the more than 170 kilometers that link Portuguesa with Barinas and Cojedes, a road that also expeditiously connects the center and the center-west of the country with the Andes, and vice versa.
