The president of the republic Luis Abinader yesterday led the event celebrating the 11th anniversary of the founding of the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM)where he called on the leadership to take care of and make public funds more efficient, after pointing out that anyone who allows or participates in acts of corruption is a traitor to the fundamental principles that originated the political organization.
He highlighted the progress made in strategic areas of the country, including institutions, security, education, economic development, transparency and infrastructure.
He assured that the country is standing, moving forward and transforming, so he asked those present not to go back or allow despair to govern again. According to the president, the future cannot be handed over to those who have failed with it.
“With unity we will win, with principles we will govern and with work we will transform; it is our commitment, our legacy and duty to the future,” he stated during the massive event held at the Great Arena of Cibao.
He said that today more than ever we must be militants of democracy and guardians of institutions, pointing out that without institutions there is no law and without democracy there is no future. In a speech of almost 40 minutes, Abinader Abinader recalled that history has taught him that setback can be disguised as promises, authoritarianism is dressed in modernity and that corruption always looks for a way to return, but they will not allow it, stating that while other countries regress, the Dominican Republic advances.
“Where others generate confusion, we offer certainty, where there is doubt and fear, we offer solutions and hope, and to those who want to turn politics into a bad show, don’t count on me,” he expressed.
“We are not equal”
The president highlighted his firm commitment to the fight against corruption and impunity, past and present.
“As for corruption and impunity, some said that we believed ourselves to be morally superior; today they have a campaign to say that we are all equal. I am sorry to tell you that we are not equal. We created an independent Public Ministry that has eliminated impunity from the past and the present. Today there is a government that confronts corruption, not covers it. Whoever allows or participates in corrupt acts is a traitor to one of our fundamental principles.”
