INEI: National employment increased by 1.5% during 2025

According to the latest statistical report, the employed population in the country increased by 1.5% during the year 2025 compared to the previous period. This result shows a moderate improvement in employment generation in different productive sectors.

The report from the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) specifies that the employed population increased by 252 300. He also noted that the employed population in the urban area increased by 1.9% (267,800); but it decreased in rural areas by 0.5% (-15,600), compared to the previous year.

According to the report, the increase was linked to activities dedicated to agriculture, fishing and mining. Likewise, a favorable outlook was presented in construction by 1.3%, commerce by 1.3% and services by 1.1%, compared to the year 2024.

Likewise, it reveals that the employed population increased in 23 cities in the countryamong them Puerto Maldonado and Pucallpa with 7.3% for each case, followed by Moquegua and Arequipa, and Huancavelica.

UNEMPLOYMENT AND INFORMALITY

On the other hand, in the year 2025, the unemployment rate stood at 4.9% compared to 2024. According to age group, it had an unfavorable influence on young people under 25 years of age and those with a university education.

The cities that recorded the highest rates of unemployment were Cajamarca and Huancavelica with 9.4% in each case and Cerro de Pasco (9.0%). On the other hand, the lowest rates occurred in Trujillo (3.3%), Tarapoto (3.6%) and Iquitos (3.7%).

For their part, in informality, the cities that registered a rate of informal employment greater than 70% were Juliaca (82.3%), Pucallpa (73.8%), Ayacucho (71.9%) and Tumbes (70.3%). On the other hand, the lowest rates were reported in Ica (54.0%), Metropolitan Lima/Constitutional Province of Callao and Moquegua with 54.8%.

Likewise, Cajamarca (9.9%), Juliaca (8.1%), Huancavelica (7.8%), Chimbote (7.5%) and Huancayo (7.4%) recorded the highest rates of unemployment.
