The Chinese Embassy in Peru rejected the statements of the United States Government about the situation of the Chancay port given the impossibility of its operation being supervised by the Supervisory Body for Investment in Transport Infrastructure for Public Use (Ositrán).
“Cooperation between China and Peru is always based on mutual respect, equitable treatment and shared gains. We firmly oppose actions that interfere with the sovereignty, security and development interests of other countries,” he indicated in his X account.
Added to this is that the spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Lin Jian, also spoke at a press conference and indicated that they firmly oppose what the United States stated. “China firmly opposes the US’s false accusation and disinformation against China’s cooperation with Peru in the Chancay port,” he added.
NORTH AMERICAN POSITION
It should be noted that, through the Office of Western Hemisphere Affairs of the State Department, it reported that it is concerned about reports that warn that Peru could be left without the capacity to supervise said terminal.
“We support Peru’s sovereign right to supervise critical infrastructure within its own territory. Let this serve as a warning to the region and the world: cheap Chinese money has a cost in terms of sovereignty,” the message noted.
