A speedboat sank this Friday afternoon (13) near Manaus, in Amazonas, leaving two dead and seven people missing. The passengers were traveling on the Lima de Abreu XV speedboat, which left Manaus bound for the municipality of Nova Olinda do Norte. The wreck occurred in the region where the Negro and Solimões rivers meet and 71 people were rescued by another vessel passing through the area.

The Fire Department, Civil Defense, Navy and social assistance and security teams were mobilized to search, rescue and support the victims. Divers immediately began searching the area of ​​the accident.

The two dead are a 22-year-old woman and a female child of approximately three years old. The child was rescued by rescue teams and taken to the Children’s Hospital and Emergency Room, in the east zone of Manaus, but was admitted to the unit already dead. The two bodies were sent to the Medical-Legal Institute (IML), for identification and release to their families.

The 71 people rescued alive were also taken to Manaus. Four adults were admitted to state health units. Two patients underwent exams and remain under monitoring by the multidisciplinary team, with stable conditions. Two more adults received care, underwent clinical evaluation, examinations and were discharged from hospital with medical advice.

The vessel’s driver was arrested earlier in the evening and investigations are being carried out to determine the causes of the sinking.
