The US accuses Meliton Cordero, DEA agent in the Dominican Republic, of bribery and visa fraud

Santo Domingo, DR. – The federal prosecutor of the District of Columbia, Jeanine Ferris Pirroreported that the agent of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Meliton Corderowho served as supervisor of the agency’s office in the Dominican Republic, was arrested and formally charged with conspiracy for committing bribery and visa fraud

According to Ferris Pirro’s statement, the arrest It occurred in Dominican territory and the accusation was presented by the District of Columbia Prosecutor’s Office, which charges the agent with the aforementioned federal crimes.

The prosecutor also issued a warning to any official who, protected by their position or insignia, attempts to undermine the priorities established by the president of the United States. “We are going to find them,” he stated, in reference to possible actions against those who engage in irregular conduct.

Cordero’s role was focused on coordinating anti-drug operations and cooperation with Dominican authorities in matters of security and the fight against drug trafficking.

DEA relocates and reorganizes personnel

The United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) reported that it is carrying out a relocation and reorganization of its personnel stationed in the Dominican Republic, as part of an internal evaluation process. The measure is adopted following complaints of alleged misconduct, currently under investigation by US authorities.

In an official statement, the agency’s administrator explained that this decision aims to safeguard the integrity of operations and strengthen supervision systems.
