The President of the Republic, José Jeríwas invited by his United States counterpart, Donald Trump, to participate in a summit that will bring together leaders from Latin America and the Caribbean.
The meeting is scheduled for March 7 in the city of Miami, Florida, and is emerging as the first regional forum of leaders of the Western Hemisphere organized under the current US mandate.
As planned, the event will be attended by the heads of state of Argentina, Paraguay, Bolivia, El Salvador, Ecuador and Honduras, among other leaders of the region.
The purpose of the forum is to strengthen ties of strategic cooperation in security matters, as well as promote objectives of shared development, economic growth and democratic stability on the continent.
It is expected that common challenges such as transnational organized crime, migration, investment for development and institutional consolidation in participating countries will be addressed during the meeting.
The invitation extended to Peru also occurs in the context of the commemoration of the bicentennial of diplomatic relations between both nations.
