Young Venezuelans demand in Madrid the release of political prisoners and a change in the country

Dozens of young Venezuelans gathered in Madrid this Thursday, when National Youth Day is celebrated in Venezuela, to demand the release of political prisoners, “an immediate change in the country” and? the amnesty law is accelerated.

“We demand change in the country immediately, that the persecutions end, that the amnesty law be accelerated”declared to Efe the young Roosevelt Alexander Fernández, one of the organizers of the protest and representative of the La Causa Radical party.

Between Venezuelan flags and posters with the faces and names of the political prisoners who remain imprisoned, Fernández recalled that the act also attempts “pay tribute” to young Venezuelans living in Spainespecially to those who have had to emigrate.

The protest manifesto recalled that “The most important are the young people who are still in Venezuela” and they continue “fighting for change”.

Fernández highlighted the case of Samantha Hernández, 16 years old, imprisoned since November 19.

José David Soto, representative of Democratic Action in Resistance, stressed that they demand the freedom of political prisoners because “they have not committed any crime”but “The only thing they did was think differently and demand freedom and human rights”.

Soto remembered the young people who went out to demonstrate in 2014 and lost their lives: “Paul Moreno” and “Robert Redman”who “They gave their lives for the struggle and freedom of Venezuela”.

To pay tribute to them, they built cardboard figures with life-size photographs of those who died in those demonstrations, placed in front of the Teatro Real in Madrid..
