The National Assembly unanimously approved this Thursday in an ordinary session the draft agreement in commemoration of the 212 years of the Battle of Victory and Venezuelan Youth Day.
Deputy César Pérez, from the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (Psuv) presented the project and highlighted that Venezuelans “must be debating as brothers all the time.”
He stressed that “we must vindicate the struggles of all young Venezuelans. It is time to unite, and say that here is a youth leadership that is willing and will be in the streets of Venezuela debating and embracing us as brothers and sisters, always. Also, it is time to vindicate the struggle of every young person in our country,” said the parliamentarian.
“We have nothing but the option to win,” he added while calling for peace and dialogue.
For her part, deputy Anyelith Tamayo, from the Democratic Action party, spoke out for “a great political dialogue with Venezuelan youth, which is sincere, honest and plural and that everyone sees themselves represented.”
He pointed out that it is necessary to see the eyes of the young people who decided to stay in Venezuela to “insist on building a Venezuela of respect.”
The battle of La Victoria took place in the state of Aragua and was a bloody confrontation against the troops of the royalist José Tomás Boves.
For the patriots, José Félix Ribas was in charge and after hours of intense conflict the patriots triumphed. Ribas obtained one of the most famous triumphs of the Independence period due to the courage with which he led the troops, which were made up mainly of inexperienced young people, most of them seminarians and students from the University of Caracas.
On February 12, 1947, the Constituent Assembly decreed to celebrate each anniversary of the battle as Youth Day, in honor of those young people who, with their sacrifice in defense of the country, offered their lives for the Independence of the country.
