The US projects growth of up to 40% in Venezuelan oil production during 2026

secretario de Energía EEUU Chris Wright

The US Secretary of Energy commented that with the modernization they will carry out in the oil industry, they seek to double production in the next 12 to 18 months. Likewise, he spoke of the interest of foreign companies that plan to work on the recovery of the electricity sector.

The Secretary of Energy of the United States, Christopher Wright, stated this Thursday the 12th that an increase between 30% and 40% is expected in Venezuela’s oil production, with US investments in different fields managed jointly with companies such as Chevron.

During a visit with Delcy Rodríguez to oil fields in the states of Monagas and Anzoátegui, Wright highlighted that they will work “together with officials in Venezuela to evaluate all the businesses in the country and evaluate what appears to be the best for the interests of Venezuela and the Western Hemisphere.”

In interview with cnncommented that with the modernization that they will carry out in the oil industry, they seek to double production in the next 12 to 18 months. «Previously, it was a Chevron field. “Today, their goal is to double production in that particular field in the next 12 to 18 months and probably quintuple it in the next five years.”

Wright highlighted that although the country has the largest oil reserves and trained technicians, it has not taken advantage of the industry’s potential. “We have to change the game in Venezuela so that Venezuelans win, so that the US wins and our hemisphere wins.”

Likewise, he pointed out that the country suffered a collapse in services during the Chavismo administration, especially in the electrical area, which is why he spoke of the interest of foreign companies that plan to work on the recovery of this sector.

«Venezuela has also suffered a collapse in its electricity production. If we want to improve people’s lives, we have to provide them with more electricity. “I think all of this will happen relatively quickly,” he said. «There are many other companies, service companies, that want to come and provide services to the large oil and gas producers. “We are talking to people very interested in working on the electrical grid.”

The visit occurs within the framework of Wright’s official agenda in Venezuela, where he has held meetings with Delcy Rodríguez. After a meeting at the Miraflores Palace, plans were announced to reactivate oil productiongas and electric energy under a US supervision scheme.

While the North American official spoke of promoting the Trump administration’s “stabilization, recovery and transition” plan, the person in charge of Venezuelan power opted for a “long-term productive partnership” that turns the energy agenda into the driving force of the bilateral relationship.

The Secretary of Energy said that, while there is progress, there is no “timeline” to end the sanctions. “Not everything is done in one day, not everything is done in five weeks… Now we are extracting Venezuelan crude oil, selling it at a much higher price than Venezuela sold it before.”
