José Jerí: Congress achieves 80 signatures and it is up to Rospigliosi to call an Extraordinary Plenary Session to debate censorship

He Congress gathered 80 signatures to request the convening of an Extraordinary Plenary Session in which the motion of censure against the president José Jerí. The request was promoted by the Renovación Popular bench and supported by a group of benches that question the permanence of José Jerí in office after the dissemination of private meetings with Chinese businessman Zhihua Yang. Fernando Rospigliosi assures that only 29 of the signatures are valid

The president of Congress, Fernando Rospigliosireported that it received the letter requesting the convening of an extraordinary plenary session to debate the motion of censure against José Jeríwhich contains 81 digital signatures. However, he specified that after the corresponding verification, only 29 of them are valid. “The motion to convene an extraordinary plenary session has been presented with 81 (digital) signatures. Only 29 are valid,” he commented.

Through his social networks, he indicated that, within that small group that does comply with the regulatory requirements, Congressman Roberto Kamiche, from the Alliance for Progress bench.

Rospigliosi pointed out that he has already informed the promoters of the initiative that they must correct the error. He assured that he will call the extraordinary plenary session as soon as he receives the document with the correct signatures.

Roberto Kamiche withdraws his signature from the request and appeals “to governability weeks before the 2026 elections”

The congressman Roberto Kamiche Morante of APP sent a letter to Fernando Rospigliosito request the withdrawal of his signature from the Extraordinary Plenary Session to debate the motions against José Jerí. In the letter, dated February 11, 2026, the legislator asks to rescind his support.

Fuerza Popular and Somos Perú did not sign the request for an Extraordinary Plenary Session

The bench of Popular Force decided not to subscribe to the request for signatures to request the Extraordinary Plenary that would debate the censorship of José Jerí and warned that it will not join an initiative that, according to its spokespersons and leader Keiko Fujimori, could generate “political instability” in a delicate context.

After reaching more than the 78 necessary signatures, Miguel Torres, Fuerza Popular candidate for vice presidency, indicated during an interview that the party will continue with its position of refusing to sign the motions of censure against President José Jerí. He also stressed that he would only support this initiative if the existence of concrete evidence of alleged crimes committed by Jerí can be proven.

“We maintain our position (…) We are going for the vacancy as soon as it is demonstrated that there is any evidence of a specific crime, until now there are only indications (…) We are not going to sign it because we have a consistent position,” he said via Canal N.
