The president reported that the document has already been completed and that its content has been prepared under an updated approach based on the reality of the country, with the aim of strengthening the State’s response to the advance of crime.
He did not rule out that the plan may receive adjustments during its evaluation, but stressed that it will allow us to have a current tool to confront citizen insecurity.
Jerí reaffirmed that restoring tranquility to the population is one of his government’s main priorities. “It is not a simple task and requires permanent work, but we are making progress in the fight against crime,” he said, highlighting that the effort will be constant during the time he holds office.
Likewise, he indicated that the Executive will not limit itself in adopting the necessary measures to restore public order, specifying that decisions will be made in the exercise of the autonomy and sovereignty of the country, always within the legal framework.
Actions in the prison system
The head of state explained that the National Citizen Security Plan includes initiatives linked to the National Superintendency of Internment and Resocialization (SUNIR), aimed at correcting irregularities in penitentiary establishments and reinforcing the principle of authority in the prison system.
In that sense, he highlighted the commitment of the majority of the personnel who previously belonged to the National Penitentiary Institute (INPE) and who today are part of SUNIR, pointing out that it is necessary to separate the bad elements that affect the operation of the detention centers.
Jerí acknowledged that not all prisons currently have signal blockers, due to administrative and contractual difficulties, and pointed out that one of the objectives of the new entity is to unblock these processes to guarantee their installation in all penitentiary establishments.
“The technological component must be reviewed, but the fundamental thing is to ensure that the signal blocking works constantly and effectively,” he said.
State of emergency and operational results
The president’s statements were made during a visit to the Santiago de Surco police station, where the results of the Territorial Control Mega Operation carried out on February 9, within the framework of the state of emergency, were presented.
According to what was reported, the operation allowed the dismantling of criminal gangs and the seizure of firearms, explosives, knives and drug shipments, including marijuana and basic cocaine paste (PBC).
The president highlighted the permanent work of the National Police and pointed out that, beyond the volume of interventions, these are daily results that seek to respond to citizen demand for greater security and presence of the State in the streets.
